CAPITAL STOVES AND THE NATIONAL FOREST

Improving our carbon footprint is a key part of our business philosophy and vital to that strategy is our partnership with the National Forest, one of Britain’s biggest environmental projects, covering 200 square miles of Leicestershire, Derbyshire, and Staffordshire. For every Capital Eco Stove that is purchased, you are helping to grow the National Forest and create woodland habitats that will benefit people and wildlife for years to come. In 27 years, the National Forest has grown the region’s woodland cover from 6% to 21%. By supporting this initiative, you’re helping us to make habitats for wildlife and grow a healthier, happier Britain.

Capital Stoves and The National Forest are all about growing the future together, here and now.

Since the early 1990s, the National Forest Company, with the support of partners and communities, has been turning an old industrial landscape – scarred by coal mining and other heavy industry – from black to green.

Taking in over 200 square miles the idea behind the Forest was radical. To plant a forest in lowland England was revolutionary, finding space for millions of trees where people live and work. It was the first forest to be created at scale in England for 1,000 years and is now seen as one of the boldest environmentally-led regeneration initiatives in the country.

It is ‘forest’ in the old sense of the word: not wall to wall trees but a distinctly wooded landscape that provides a setting within which people live, work and learn. 9 million trees have been planted so far, and it is these trees that have been the catalyst for change. Forest cover has increased from 6% to 22% – more than twice the national average, 8,000 hectares of new habitats have been transformed, over half a million children have experienced outdoor learning, and more than 5,000 jobs have been created in the tourism industry. All in the space of just 30 years.

However, this isn’t enough. The National Forest has always been a tree-led response to the climate crisis, but today the problem is much bigger. Our planet is facing a climate emergency and our society is experiencing social and economic problems that are all exacerbated by climate change.

This climate emergency means that we must be more ambitious and act quickly. The National Forest’s vision takes a more dynamic approach to the challenges faced by our environment, society and economy, finding innovative solutions that benefit all three simultaneously. This is real sustainability in action. In partnership, in a real place. It’s a model that can be taken and used elsewhere. Not by creating panic and guilt, but by growing hope and confidence, because the Forest has a track record of creating change.

Since 2019, Capital Stoves have been a brand partner with The National Forest and make a donation for every Eco 2022 Stove sold in the UK.
